After evolving undisturbed for decades this much loved woodland is being systematically trashed by a so-called Community Enterprise

Save Raincliffe Woods Ethos

No One Should be Silenced

After repeated attempts to silence any alternative opinions Save Raincliffe Woods continues to expose this brutal woodland mismanagement.

Under the apparently false premise of woodland conservation and community well-being a beautiful natural amenity and wildlife habitat is being systematically trashed.  ALL THE BEST MATURE TREES BOTH DECIDUOUS AND EVERGREENS are being removed for profit by a registered company masquerading as a community charity claiming grants of public money.

Preserving this diverse and ancient woodland

After several decades of evolution our local woodland has developed into a unique mixed flora and fauna amenity  including remnants of an ancient forest surrounded by variety of trees serving to preserve the stability of a steep  escarpment.

While accepting a reasonable controlled amount of thinning, the current situation has become totally out of proportion involving heavy machinery on an industrial scale with all the ensuing collateral damage to delicate surroundings and the flower rich woodland floor.

A community woodland should first and foremost preserve what has been entrusted and any operations should be conducted in a sustainable fashion.  The woods could sustain a small cottage industry producing useful home and garden products in keeping with this relatively small hillside local woodland. More attention should be given to wildlife in particular Badger Setts and retaining a tree and flora rich environment.  Educating local children about respecting nature with the creation of Nature Trails would be more positive then just riding roughshod through everything to make a few quid!

For over a decade this public wood has been severely depleted providing little benefit to the local community. How much longer can such a heavy-handed approach to  a small hillside woodland be tolerated?
